JOYFUL COASTAL RETREAT
___
This radiant, three-story seaside retreat was designed for a vibrant, multigenerational family that wanted anything but the expected. When the homeowner’s only request was “no blue-and-white,” Dane Austin embraced the opportunity to reimagine coastal living through a fresh lens—eschewing traditional nautical palettes in favor of sun-drenched tones and soul-nourishing sophistication.
Inspired by the client’s desire for a cheerful, welcoming environment, the interiors are infused with a joyful blend of terra cotta, peachy pinks, creamy yellows, and grounding shades of green. Every room throughout the 4,900-square-foot home is a masterclass in color harmony, textured layering, and personalized detail—crafted to delight both now and for generations to come.
The elevated main living room, drenched in sunlight, is the heart of the home. Its pistachio-painted beams, pair of coral-colored sofas, raffia-wrapped cocktail table, and sandy canework rug strike a perfect balance between playful and grounded. Wide doors and windows open to a full-length deck, blurring the lines between indoor ease and the natural world beyond.
A custom dining table welcomes extended family, while bunkrooms and reading nooks anticipate visits from future grandchildren. Every detail is thoughtfully layered—from woven elements repeated across lighting, wallcoverings, and rugs, to custom upholstery and millwork that connect each space through tactile storytelling.
Even amid luxurious fabrics and tailored furnishings, the soul of this home lies in its personal touches: a cherished family photograph enlarged above an antique chest; an office lovingly called “the most beautiful place in existence” by the client; and a primary bedroom where automated draperies open at the touch of a button to reveal an ever-changing view.
This is a legacy home: bold, joyful, and grounded in meaning. Designed for memory-making, for celebration, for rest. Or as the client shared in a handwritten note: “You created a space I’m proud of… It means more to me than you could ever know.”
