WOODLAND REFLECTIONS
___
This 1960s Cape, nestled in the woods and overlooking a serene pond, was transformed into a light-filled retreat that balances modern functionality with handcrafted warmth. After more than two decades in the home, the client—an empty nester fond of Arts and Crafts influences—envisioned a space that felt airy, personal, and deeply connected to nature.
The heart of the renovation is the main living area, where the ceiling was raised to create a dramatic double-height room with a catwalk above. A soaring plaster fireplace, finished with a hand-painted mural which echos the leaves on fallen water, anchors the space as both hearth and artwork. Custom cabinetry and open shelving wrap seamlessly into adjoining rooms, offering continuity and a place to display meaningful treasures from the client’s extensive world travels. Grasscloth wallcovering and enlarged windows further connect the space to its woodland setting.
The kitchen and dining areas were reimagined to serve daily living and entertaining. Removing a seldom-used dining room and a non-working fireplace allowed the kitchen to expand, embracing pond views with larger windows, double ovens tucked into the island, and generous counter space for a family of avid bakers. The relocated dining area integrates naturally, while custom bookshelves wrapping the central fireplace column provide rhythm and flow through the open plan.
Other spaces reflect the same attention to detail: a home office with pond-view flexibility, camouflaged storage, and pond-inspired drapery; fully renovated bathrooms; a reimagined primary bedroom with custom-designed furniture;a sunroom updated with taller windows for year-round light, and more.
Throughout, natural materials, bespoke furnishings, and refined craftsmanship create a modern retreat that celebrates nature, artistry, and the rhythms of home.
