Seeds of Great Design

Dane Austin interprets his clients’ aesthetic in a ‘fearlessly creative’ style that is as distinctive in its storytelling as it is in its beauty.” – Home & Design Magazine, 2022

There is unique alchemy in design creation, and each project has its own trajectory based on the client’s requests and requirements. Some houses present complicated challenges, while others offer fewer problems but the same opportunities to push the boundaries. “A thoughtful designer encourages a client to step out of their box and helps to make people comfortable with change with love, support, and encouragement,” says Dane. The reason that no two Dane Austin Design projects look exactly the same is that they are true reflections of the client’s taste and lifestyle goals.

“Each project starts with a vision for the client’s home as a place where sharing their joy with others is effortless,” Dane says. “Gaining clients’ trust and assuring them that they’re in good hands develops with every conversation.”

In order to get to the essence of each design, clients fill out an initial questionnaire and then answer more questions to provide the necessary insight to formulate the concept and composition. Once the scope has been decided, the process begins to take shape with the five Fs.

1.     Floor plans

2.     Furnishings/furniture plans

3.     Fabric samples

4.     Fixture ideas

5.     Finishes

Design is an art and a science. The science comes in the form of measurements and color theory, proper proportions, and an understanding of structures. Great design requires inspiration and experimentation - the crux of art.

Dane Austin Design is known for the dynamic use of color and, as Dane puts it, “unexpected pairings that marry traditional and contemporary design.” In the end, however, each project has this in common: comfort as the ultimate luxury.

SOURCES OF INSPIRATION

Dane’s sources of inspiration are travel, exploring new places, and visiting museums and galleries. Design books, shelter magazines, and social media provide additional stimulation and illumination. Dane’s foremost inspiration comes from nature; not only the magnificent colors and textures but also the experience of nature – the feelings that nature instills. Of course, there is also what clients bring to the table in terms of their personalities, experiences, and preferences.

Like art and architecture, interior design is heavily reliant on the visual. Presenting design schemes to clients is a critical piece of the design journey. Virtual or in-person meetings are an important part of the process. The direction for the project emerges from these interactions. The DADI team prides itself on keeping projects on track to reach the final goal: installation day and the final reveal.

Clients benefit from Dane’s long-standing relationships with leading architects, custom home builders, fabricators and vendors, artisans, and other industry specialists. His collaboration with trade partners is extraordinary. The combination of excellence in design and thoughtful interior design business practices results in beautiful projects, satisfied clients, and an impressive list of honors. In other words, the design seeds that are planted at the beginning of the client relationship bloom into remarkable spaces that Dane’s clients love.
