For Dane Austin, the proverbial third time really was the charm. The Boston-based interior designer was first hired by this DC resident to assist with the redesign of a one-bedroom home in 2012; a year later, after he relocated to a larger condominium in Logan Circle, the pair joined forces a second time. But the results of that renovation would be short-lived: Less than a year after completion—and around the same time that he received a life-altering pancreatic cancer diagnosis—a fire erupted in the building, requiring the unit to be gutted.
